Beach'n Fly-in Festival Early May

This is a two-day spot landing contest for both hang gliders and paragliders. The event will be held on the beach at Lakeside Park where pilots will be scored on their accuracy and landing form. Pilots can make as many attempts as they wish, but only their three best landings will count for their final score. Sunday morning is the race to the beach. Pilots are timed from when their feet leave the ground at the top of Chelan Butte to the point where their feet touch again at Lakeside Park beach.

Saturday night there is a BBQ for the pilots and their families at Lakeside Park and the awards ceremony is on Sunday afternoon. Viewing can be done from either the top of Chelan Butte with its spectacular 360-degree view or from the grassy lawn of Lakeside Park, a wonderful place to bring the family for a picnic. Either place you can meet the pilots and see the gliders up close.

Chelan XC Classic Early July
This event was started in 1981 and has been one for our nation's top events of the summer flying season. Hang glider and paraglider pilots come from all over the United States and the world to attend this event. This event is somewhat unusual in that the pilots themselves choose the task they will fly: either a straight line, out-and- return or triangle courses. Pilots start from Chelan Butte and for the most part fly over the wheat fields to the east across the Columbia River. Viewing this events is best done on top of Chelan Butte.

Fly & Bike Festival
Late September

Enjoy the beautiful fall weather in Chelan along with friendly flying and biking competition. This is a perfect time of year to experience flying the famous Chelan Butte with gentler thermals and still plenty of good lift available. Bike riders will enjoy pleasant fall temperatures for a scenic 10 mile ride, suitable for mountain or fat tire bikes.

Come and compete in either or both events. The flying competition consists of spot landing and target drop contests at Chelan Falls Park on the Columbia River. Pilots are scored on their accuracy and landing form and can make as many attempts as they wish, with their three best landings and target points counting for their final score.

The biking portion is a 10 mile ride from Chelan Falls Park up Hwy. 150 to Chelan, across the Dan Gordon bridge and back to the Chelan Falls Park on the old Chelan Falls road. Some race the course while others enjoy a slow leisurely sight-seeing ride.
